Centre for Transport Policy and Economics

 

 

 

The Centre for Transport Policy and Economics has been established with the assistance of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, as one of the two Special Studies Centre, in CIRT, Pune.  The Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 1.00 crore to CIRT to be put in corpus fund for the establishment of this Centre. The interest on the corpus fund is to be utilized for the activities of the Centre. 

 

The prime objective of the Centre is to carry out studies related to transport policy, planning and economics with due emphasis on 

 

          Transport Regulation & Coordination

          Productivity and Efficiency Analysis

          Demand Forecasting

          Costing

          Pricing

          Cost-Benefit Analysis

          Econometric Modeling

 

 

Studies conducted during 2001-02

 

 

Besides above mentioned studies, the Centre has sponsored a consultancy project on “Public Transport Policy and Management Study for the State of Uttaranchal” as per the suggestion of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India.

 

 

 

Research studies to be undertaken in the future

 

·            Pricing Issues in Urban Bus Companies;

·            Estimating the level of rail as well as road based freight transportation in India;

·            Profile of a Performer : A case Study of State Transport Undertaking;

·            Activity Based Costing: A Case Study of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KnSRTC); and

·            Public-Private Partnership Issues in Passenger Transportation

 

Besides these studies, the Centre is sponsoring a consultancy project on “Analyzing the Accidents due to Tyre Bursts along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway” as per the suggestion of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India.
